The Northwest Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Council (NWRETAC) has an opening for the position of RETAC Coordinator.  The NWRETAC encompasses the counties of Garfield, Mesa, Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt.

Position Overview

The NWRETAC Coordinator is a contracted position and functions as an advisor to the council on all matters relating to emergency medical and trauma service programs.  This position communicates with hospitals, EMS agencies, training centers, and county and state representatives in identifying opportunities to resolve problems and improve services.  The coordinator provides a wide spectrum of statistical data to meet state, regional, and council requirements and recommends areas for research, continuous quality improvement (CQI) and data collection; prepares and presents various statistical analyses to justify council recommendations for changes in regional procedures, protocols or processes; makes recommendations to the council concerning the application and distribution of moneys and for the establishment of priorities for emergency medical and trauma services grants; manages and is responsible for the NWRETAC budget.  This position provides ongoing oversight of compliance to hospital and pre-hospital data standards and assists the council with recovery of records related to regional performance.  The coordinator assures appropriate clerical support to facilitate daily NWRETAC operations effectively.

Northwest RETAC Coordinator Minimum Requirements

  • Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in EMS, Nursing, Business, Public Administration or a closely related field of study requiring significant communication skills, commiserate experience considered; and
  • Preferred 5 years of emergency medical experience in nursing and/or paramedicine. The position requires training and expertise in various areas of research, statistics, and other quality standards.
  • Experience organizing and executing professional events, such as conferences, seminars, and conventions.
    • This role involves coordinating logistics, managing budgets, ensuring participant satisfaction, and maintaining the overall quality of the event.
  • Preferred prior supervisory experience in EMS or nursing not limited to, intimate knowledge of EMS and trauma systems operations in Colorado, accreditation procedures, state and national EMS policy.
  • Successful applicants must live in one of the five counties within one year of hire.
  • Current or previous unsanctioned Colorado certification as EMS Provider or Nursing Licensure.
  • Must possess and maintain an unrestricted Colorado driver’s license
  • Basic principles and practices of research and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning, budgeting and accounting.
  • This position must be able to evaluate the work of others while demonstrating considerable knowledge of basic and advanced emergency medical procedures and protocols and understand trauma system statutes per CDPHE
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and rescue procedures.
  • Knowledge of patient privacy and information security rules such as HIPAA.
  • Must be computer literate and have a working proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and be familiar with digital communication and videoconferencing tools.

 Northwest RETAC Coordinator Essential Function

  • Functions as the liaison between the NWRETAC Executive Council & Board, healthcare facilities, prehospital agencies, County Commissioners, CDPHE and the RETAC and communicate needs in a timely manner.
  • Completes and maintains timely and accurate position records and reports to include budgets and other required documentation in compliance with applicable laws, council and external requirements.
  • Familiarization and compliance with EMS/Trauma Statutes--current and future pending, communicating this knowledge to the NWRETAC Board.
  • Submit activity reports to NWRETAC and CDPHE in accordance with CDPHE pre-hospital and trauma system requirements.
  • Provide rapid dissemination of information to all EMS agencies and trauma facilities, and coordinates communication to avoid duplication of effort.
  • Provide technical assistance to EMS agencies and trauma facilities.
  • Work with the NWRETAC and/or the appropriate sub-committee(s) to maintain current CQI and performance improvement standards or programs.
  • Assists in the selection and onboarding of the NWRETAC Executive Council and Board.
  • Assists in maintaining and administering election procedures and terms of the NWRETAC Executive Council and Board.
  • Computer literate with NWRETAC statistical and documentation software.
  • Assists local and county offices of emergency management in the NWRETAC in emergency planning and preparedness activities, including exercises and drills relevant to the NWRETAC.
  • Participates in and supports NWRETAC agencies and the Executive Council and Board in local and regional assessments and projects.
