Our Culture: Professionalism with a Peak Perspective

At GAA, we don’t just run calls; we serve as the clinical backbone of a high-altitude community. Our culture is built on three pillars:

  • Autonomy with Support: We trust our Captains to make high-stakes decisions in the field. You aren't just a supervisor; you are a mentor who has the resources and modern equipment to do the job right.
  • The "Small-Team" Advantage: We move fast and avoid the red tape of larger urban agencies. Here, your voice directly influences operational changes, and you’ll work closely with a Chief and Deputy Chief who values transparency and professional growth.
  • Mountain Resilience: Our team thrives on the unique challenges of Gilpin County and the surrounding areas. We look for leaders who bring a calm, "steady-hand" approach to complex scenes and who prioritize the physical and mental well-being of their crew.

 The Role: Leader, Mentor, Liaison

At the Gilpin Ambulance Authority, you aren't operating in a silo. As Captain, you are the face of GAA on the front lines, serving as the critical bridge between our agency and the partners who keep this county safe.

  • Unified Command Leadership: You will work side-by-side with Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office, the Black Hawk Police Department and local fire crews from Black Hawk, Central City, and Timberline Fire Protection District. Your ability to maintain seamless communication and mutual respect on-scene is what ensures successful outcomes in our complex terrain.
  • A "One-Team" Philosophy: We pride ourselves on a culture where the badge on the shoulder matters less than the mission at hand. You will be expected to foster a collaborative environment where EMS, Fire, and Law Enforcement operate as a single, cohesive unit.
  • Beyond the Call: Your leadership extends to inter-agency training and disaster planning. You won't just respond to incidents; you’ll help design the joint protocols that make our entire county’s emergency response more effective.
  • Community Trust: In our tight-knit mountain district, you are more than a supervisor—you are a trusted community leader. We look for Captains who lead with the professional diplomacy required to represent GAA.

Is This Your Next Step?

We are looking for a Captain who is as passionate about developing people as they are about clinical excellence. If you lead by example and want to help shape the future of a progressive rural EMS agency, we want to hear from you.
