The Washington County Ambulance will be accepting applications for part-time paramedics. The positions are available immediately. The Washington County Ambulance Service is seeking qualified paramedics to cover two 36–48 hour shifts per month. The hourly wage is $22.50-25.00 per hour based upon experience and qualifications and there is not a benefit package at this time. The person or persons selected will serve under the general supervision of the Ambulance Director.
The primary duties for the paramedic include providing patient care while on duty, performing routine daily checks of ambulances, medical equipment, and medical kits, and ensuring that all ambulances and headquarters are clean and orderly while on shift. Field experience is preferred but not required. Must possess a Colorado Paramedic Certification, ACLS Certification, BLS Certification, and a valid Colorado Driver License. Possession of FEMA ICS course completion of 100, 200, and 700 within 6 months of hire. Must have the physical ability to lift and carry patients. Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain. Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture. Ability to work in low light, confined spaces and other dangerous environments. Ability to use good judgement and remain calm in high stress situations.
The Washington County Ambulance Service provides 24/7 advanced life support coverage and operates under the Denver Metro Protocols. The roster consists of 2 full-time paramedics, 2 Full-time EMTs and 11 part-time paramedics, EMTs, and drivers. In 2025, the WCAS responded to 592 calls for service that include medical and trauma 911, fire standbys, sports standbys, fair and rodeo standbys, and various public relations events. In 2022 the WCAS headquarters was constructed and has a modern, hospitable crew room and sleeping quarters with full kitchen. The routine daily staffing is 1 paramedic and 1 EMT or driver based in the Akron or Otis area. There is no hospital in the county and the 911 transports range from 13 to 70 miles. The WCAS does not provide critical care services and does not routinely perform interfacility transfers at this time.
